Brass Raw Material Type

Although CW614N and CW617N brass materials, which are frequently used in the sanitary ware and heating industry, are very similar to each other in terms of chemical content, they differ in two important ways. CW617N brass alloy, preferred by European manufacturers, contains lead (1,6-2,5%) in accordance with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) directives, while CW614N brass alloy, which is generally preferred by Chinese manufacturers due to its low cost, is 2.5%. It contains -3,5% lead and should not be used in clean drinking water.

In addition, although it seems to be a small percentage difference, the difference in copper ratio directly affects the strength of the product and the products produced from CW614N alloy brass have a much more fragile structure.

CW617N alloy should be used for products that are in direct contact with clean water or that require force during assembly.

Thread Type

Perhaps the most important point in thread-type brass fittings, however, it is extremely important that the threads that will provide the sealing are compatible with each other. Particular attention should be paid to this detail, especially when products produced in different countries are intended to be used with each other. Because different types of threads may damage each other, may not provide sealing or may not engage at all.

There are three types of threads that are frequently used in the plumbing and heating industry.

  • Gas (Pipe) Thread (BSPP)
  • Tapered Thread (BSPT)
  • Metric Thread

Pipe thread represents parallel thread structure made according to British standards; The conical thread is again made to British standards, but there is a certain angle of inclination along the thread, and these two thread types are widely used in Europe. Metric teeth, on the other hand, are used more frequently in the USA, with shorter pitches and thinner tooth structures.

Emirplast products are Gas or Pipe threaded. (British Standard Pipe Parallel) and only CW617N alloy brass material is used.
